Three Tips for Video Optimization

Putting videos online is all the rage but is it really just as simple as uploading a video to YouTube or your website for people to find it? The simple answer is No. You need to do some work to make it search engine friendly just like all content needs to be on the Internet. So here are some quick tips on how to do just that.

Backlinks – The more places your video is linked, the more possibilities there are of finding it right? But how do you intelligently create backlinks so that they stay where you put them and they bring traffic to your site? Easy, follow this three step process and you\'ll be on your way First, when you upload you video, create press release or announcement that can be distributed with links to the video, your site and any information that might draw viewers in. Second, submit links to online directories, social bookmarking sites and the major social networks like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and myspace. Third, make contact with people who have forums and blogs that pertain to your specific topic so that you have a built-in network of places you can drop links in. By doing all of that you will make your video far easier to find than it would have been without these links. Plus that means you\'ll start showing up higher in Google search engine results because this is a major factor that Google looks at.

Add a Little Text – You can\'t hit all of the people all of the time with video and audio information. Some people are at work, can\'t hear or don\'t speak English. That means your message is lost on them if it\'s not presently visually. So you need subtitles which will allow you to put text into the videos. That allows your message to get out to the masses even if they can\'t hear it or don\'t speak English. See how cool that is? It\'s an ideal place to drop in some URLs and contact information so they know where to find you and your website, product or company.

Shotgun approach – Put your video everywhere. Or at least everywhere you can. If you really want people to see it and come to see you then you need to place it in places they will go like YouTube, MetaCafe and other video sharing sites. Maybe put an abbreviated form of the video there with links and text telling viewers that there\'s more to see and that to see it they have to come to you. That\'s a traffic funnel right there! Yes this all sounds so simple right? Well it is, but if you don\'t do it you\'re sure to hardly ever generate traffic on your videos. So what are you waiting for? Even if you\'ve got older videos on your site that are under-performing you can do all of this to get them revitalized and bringing you more traffic.
